Lack of power supply threatens health service deliver at Abaji settlement

Lack of power supply has been identified as a threat to effective service delivery at a Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC), located on Manderegi in Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Community Health Extension Worker (CHEW) at the PHC, Agnes Jeremiah, disclosed that the clinic has been functioning without electricity since its inception.
The PHC, which is one of the best in the area council, is being hampered by lack of power supply, which made working at night impossible.
Jeremiah said when there is an emergency, especially related to child delivery at night, workers use lanterns to work.
She said that some essential clinic equipment were not connected to a power source, adding that the workers have complained severally but there was no favourable response yet from the authorities.
The CHEW, however, expressed optimism that the area council will come to the rescue of the PHC, adding that power supply will greatly improve service delivery and boost worker’s morale.
She called on government to expedite action on the electrification work at the clinic.
